Foot soaking can greatly enhance the quality of your meditations. It tends to be most effective when performed the last thing in the evening, right before going to bed. You’ll find that it’s especially effective when performed regularly each evening.
To prepare for a foot soak, pour a wide bowl or tub of cool or “comfortably warm” water; enough to cover your feet up to your ankles.
Add roughly two tablespoons of salt to the water.
Keep a towel and a large mug of clean, unsalted water by your side to cleanse your feet at the end.
To begin, sit comfortably on a chair with your back straight. Place both hands on your lap, palms up. Close your eyes and relax.
First, focus your attention on the top of your head. If you need help focusing your attention, try placing your right palm on top of your head for a few minutes until you sense that your attention is focused. Then return your right hand to your lap, palm upward. Next, with pure desire from your heart, ask: “Energy Within, please grant me the state of meditation.” Repeat this request 2 to 3 times, while focusing your attention on the top of your head.
Remain in this state for 10 to 15 minutes. Before you stand up, pour the clean water from the mug over your feet to rinse them. Dry your feet. Flush the water and wash your hands. You may choose to continue your meditation after completing the foot soak.
